International Collaboration Agreements and MOUs

Central Campus

International Affairs (IA) is available to assist central campus faculty interested in developing agreements between UC San Diego and international universities and institutions. IA facilitates agreements while ensuring that they adhere to guidelines developed by the offices of Campus Counsel, Academic Affairs, Research and Graduate Studies. We provide guidelines that explain the agreement development process, templates that facilitate the drafting of an agreement, and counsel to answer questions on the process.

Agreement guidelines and forms are available on the International Affairs website. For additional information, contact International Affairs Director Michelle Hermas at mhermas@ucsd.edu, or (858)-822-4739.

Health Sciences

The Health Sciences Business Contracting Office is responsible for negotiating and reviewing all agreements on behalf of Health Sciences - including the School of Medicine (SOM), the Skaggs School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences (SSPPS), and the Physician Medical Group - on behalf of The Regents of the University of California.  The office assists with educational affiliations and collaborations within the U.S. and internationally, as well as all clinical and non-clinical service transactions.

  • School of Medicine international educational collaborations and affiliations must be approved by Dr. Maria Savoia, Vice Dean for Medical Education.
  • Skaggs School of Pharmacy & Pharmaceutical Sciences educational collaborations and affiliations must be approved by the SSPPS Dean's Office.

Each international collaboration must be reviewed, approved and signed in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Health Sciences.  To be fair, the Business Contracting Office processes agreements based on the date a request is submitted.  Please allow as much advance notice as possible, as negotiating with foreign universities and governments can be a lengthy process, even for something simple like obtaining signatures.

To get started, please contact Health Sciences Business Contracting Director Robin Samit, Esq., in the Office of the Vice Chancellor Health Sciences and Dean of the School of Medicine.  Ms. Samit can be reached by email at: rsamit@ucsd.edu.

Marine Sciences

Scripps Institution of Oceanography, at University of California, San Diego, is one of the oldest, largest and most important centers for global science research and education in the world. The National Research Council has ranked Scripps first in faculty quality among oceanography programs nationwide. Now in its second century of discovery, the scientific scope of the institution has grown to include biological, physical, chemical, geological, geophysical and atmospheric studies of the earth as a system. Hundreds of research programs covering a wide range of scientific areas are under way today in 65 countries. The institution has a staff of about 1,300, and annual expenditures of approximately $162 million from federal, state and private sources. Scripps operates one of the largest U.S. academic fleets with four oceanographic research ships and one research platform for worldwide exploration.

International Agreements and Memorandum of Understanding are reviewed and approved by our Contracts and Grants office and signed in the Office of the Vice Chancellor for Marine Science. Please allow as much advance notice as possible, as negotiating with foreign universities and governments can be a lengthy process. For more information, consult Brandi Bangle, International Relations Coordinator at Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Brandi can be reached by email at: bbangle@ucsd.edu.
